After your baby is discharged from the hospital, we will want to see you and your newborn in the office. Please call to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Please remember to bring hospital discharge paperwork to your first visit.

We routinely see your new baby at 3-5 days of age and at 2 weeks of age. If there are feeding or weight issues or jaundice, we may schedule additional visits as necessary.

At Downtown Silver Spring Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine we make every effort to follow the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommended schedule for well child visits (also known as check-ups/physical exams). We believe that this schedule allows for the best preventative care and allows us to ensure full compliance with the AAP's and CDC's recommended immunization schedules.

Preventative care and sports physicals.

10-14 days: Newborn metabolic blood screening test
1 month: Hepatitis B
2 months: Pentacel (DTaP, IPV, HIB), Prevnar 13 (Pneumococcal), Rotavirus, developmental screen
4 months: Pentacel, Prevnar 13, Rotavirus, developmental screen
6 months: Pentacel, Prevnar 13, Rotavirus and Hepatitis B, developmental screen
9 months: Anemia and Lead Screens, developmental screen
12 months: Varicella (Chicken Pox), MMR, Prevnar 13, Hepatitis A. Tuberculosis screening and developmental screen
15 months: DTaP, HIB, developmental screen
18 months: Hepatitis A, developmental screen
2 years: Hepatitis A (if two doses not completed), lead screening, vision screen, hearing screen, developmental screen
2 1/2 years: Vision and hearing screening if not completed at 2 years, developmental screen
3 years: Vision, hearing, anemia and developmental screen
4 years: DTaP, IPV, MMR, Varicella (Combinations MMRV and DTaP-IPV available), developmental screen, vision and hearing screens
5 years: Developmental screen and anemia. Vision and hearing screens
6-8 years: Well visits are scheduled yearly. Anemia, vision and hearing screens
9-10 years: Well visits are scheduled yearly. Cholesterol and anemia screening. Vision and hearing screens
11-13 years: Well visits are scheduled yearly. Tdap, Meningococcal vaccine, HPV for both boys and girls, cholesterol and anemia screening. Vision and hearing screens
14-15 years: Well visits are scheduled yearly. HPV (if not previously given), vision and hearing screens
16-18 years: Well visits are scheduled yearly. Meningococcal booster, HPV (if not previously given), cholesterol and anemia screening as well as vision and hearing

For acute appointments, you may call any time after 8:00 am.

You have the option to select whichever provider you wish, depending on their availability. It is our goal that any ill or injured child be seen as soon as possible, and we will staff our schedule accordingly.
